The purpose is to aid in quantification of the North American carbon budget, to support inverse estimation of carbon sources and sinks, and to support the demands posed by the launch of the Orbital Carbon Observatory (OCO)scheduled for 2008/2009. The detail and scope of the Vulcan CO2 inventory has also made it a valuable tool for policymakers, demographers and social scientists. Click here for high resolution maps which show U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels with more than 100 times more detail than was ever available before. For more information, visit the website or contact Kevin Gurney at (765) 427-8680, kgurney@purdue.edu My Carbon Pledge - an initiative of the Indianapolis Zoo. Their goal is to change one million incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs in the state of Indiana in 2008. You may think, "How much difference is that really going to make?" But with the average daily light bulb use of three hours, this one simple step can reduce Indiana's CO2 emissions by 150 million pounds per year or the equivalent of taking over 13,000 cars off the road. Please help ensure that polar bears have a future and take the pledge today!
